Make the most of your preschooler or toddler’s interest in blocks – wooden, Lego, and ABC – with 47 easy block activities for preschoolers!
We tend to haveblocks out a lot around here.
Whether its Legos, or wooden blocks, or our ABC blocks(these are all affiliate links, thank you for your support!), we include them in a lot of the activities that we do. And what preschooler doesn’t love block play?
Blocks are kind of a staple in most households, am I right?

Boys and girls both like blocks. They’re a lot of fun!
Turns out, kids can learn a lot from these simple toys. But, what exactly?

And I’ve collected some wonderful ways to play with blocks, so we can maximize our use of these awesomely simple toys. I think the simple toys the best because they can be used the most ways?

What can preschoolers do with blocks? There are nearly endless ways to play with blocks, no matter which specific types you happen to have on hand. These are just my favorite block play activities for preschoolers!
What are block activities?
Block play can be done with any type of block, or building toy you have lying around!
Blocks are a common toy for young toddlers and preschoolers to have.
Whether they’re wooden blocks, Lego or Duplo building blocks, alphabet blocks or uncommon items that you can build with that aren’t necessarily a block.
Wooden block play for preschoolers
Wooden blocks are a staple of childhood for decades, maybe even centuries! These classic toys are easy to use for tons of easy, fun activities.
Duplo block play activities for preschoolers
Playing with Lego and Duplo blocks works on fine motor skills, plus they can be adapted for literacy and math!

Add learning activities to preschoolers’ block play!

Thank you for such a creative post! I so enjoy how each project has a link with specific directions. I so enjoy the thought of being able to incorporate hands-on learning into the classroom. I truly believe students learn better when they are involved with the lesson.

Great list of ideas… We’ll be exploring some of these soon :)
One of the things we do is to build a building using as many blocks as we can. Then we have a child see if they can get the whole building to fall down by taking out a single block. It’s not always as simple as taking out a bottom block, either! It inspires the builders to think of ways to make the building sturdy and the knocker to consider carefully the result of pulling any particular block.
We also like to see who can build the tallest block tower that doesn’t fall down and then count how many blocks it took.

I am currently doing my cert III in children’s services and have to make a lesson plan for my ‘focus child’, he seems to really enjoy the plain wooden blocks that the center has and am unsure on what to do to make it a fun and an educational experience for him. The group I’m in is 3-5 year old’s. Any ideas? :)

Wow! What a wealth of activities! I’m a teacher and was just checking out some new ideas to incorporate into our block area. I have enough to keep us busy the rest of the year! Another great thing to do with tape to incorporate learning with blocks is to put tape on the floor in the shape of a letter or number so that the child can use blocks to make the letter or number. A child has to use geometry to figure out where to place the block, estimation by figuring out the size block needed and how many and to add more learning, they actually can touch the letter or number! It has to be in their hands before it can make it to their brains! :)
